Buying a car and putting on a private plate
« on: 04 March 2012, 19:34 »
Hi guys, took the plunge and bought a smart car

I was given a private plate as a gift recently, if I was to take the form for this to the dealer tomorrow, could he then send it off with the v5 so I don't have to wait for that to come back only to send it off again?

Cheers

Unless the smart car is unregistered, I doubt it, as there is an £80 fee to swap the registration on your car. :undecided: It is a right ball ache waiting around for all the forms to come through, but it is worth it in the end!

My tip would be: Once you have your V5 document for the smart car, go directly to a DVLA office (if you can) as if you mess up the forms, you can simply fill out new ones.

i have had the dealer put my plates onto a car and it took a couple of days. Or go to dvla office and do it instantly.
