Future replies to this type of inquiry will be "Have tried clicking the left stalk towards you to illuminate the blue dash light?".

Perhaps this should be made a sticky...?

You don't own a Mk2, you support it.

It's a known fact that the little blue dash light actually helps you see the road ahead at night when there is no oncoming traffic.....  How bizarre.

My MK1 doesn't have one, mine is amber but has the same affect.

But Mind and have the blue full beam light on within the console....

These are driving lamps, not fog or side lights and only work on full beam...

aha, aha, aha!!!!   Thanks, that's fixed it, I didn't realise I didn't have the full beam on, I found how to put the blue light on just now and they work fine now.

and I've got got a shiny new multimeter out of it too :D,

Thanks very much everyone for your help, I could have looked very silly taking that into a garage to get fixed :D ,

LOOL you plum!

what an arse I am hahah, I was at work on lunch when I read the post and sussed it, I sprinted down to the car park to try it out, I never knew whether to laugh or cry when it worked hahah :D
