re:Petrol smell in cab
« on: 25 May 2005, 10:45 »
Hi,
Just bought my first Golf GTi 16V at the weekend and have started to notice the smell of petrol in the cab at start up in the mornings, it seems to disappear after a few miles.

Have listened for the Shhhhh at the petrol cap, and can't smell petrol in the engine bay when i have stopped

does anyone have a photo which shows the position of the breather pipes, fuel rail, lines, etc until i can get a Haynes

Cheers

Ive got the same problem m8 and have only noticed it in the warmer weather.
You start the car up and can smell it for 1-2 mins whilst driving then it disappears.
I took the car to my mechanic i use and he says hes got a nose for petrol but said i didnt have a problem but then i didnt leave it with him so he couldnt try it from cold.
It could be a breather pipe or the petrol filter i reckon
