thats exactly the same as mine did mate sounds like your waterpump mine had just started to break up when i took it out

The impeller can spin on the shaft so as you say it will let some water past, Rev it up a bit  :smiley:

mine had split that thats why i had some water coming back through return pipe

2 water pumps on ecp any real difference for the extra cost? my local autosave have them in stock to pick up today 48 quid inc vat

make sure it has metal impellor not plastic  :smiley:

ecp just replied to my question saying the more expensive oem pump has plastic impellor and cheaper aftermarket one has metal which seems weird then if metal is better

Just get  a genuine one from VW with plastic impeller and replace at every cambelt change.

 I heard the metal ones can seize and throw the belt, that's why VW make them from plastic so when it fails it just spins on the shaft.

Not sure how true that is though  :undecided:
