Upgrading from 1.4 to a 1.6
« on: 28 February 2012, 21:55 »
I've been thinking about picking up at 1.8T but to be honest I can't afford the £2000 insurance it will cost me! so I'm likely to opt for a MK4 1.6

I'll be upgrading from a mk3 1.4 CL which is pretty dead to say the least :embarassed:

Would I 'notice' a decent performance increase over my current car? I'm going to look at a 1998 (T reg?) MK4 this week but I don't want to be disappointed with my purchase if I was to get it!

also where is the vag-com port on a mk4 so I can scan it for codes when I look at it

Its a 1.6 8v not the 16v, is this the mk3 engine? or is it a new injector engine for a MK4

Cheers guys!

They are a pretty hard find aren't they? Plenty of 1.6's around so thought I'd have a look due to cheap insurance (£100 more than I pay per year now) and fueling costs

Well if you really want the 1.6, find the 16v, main issue is the gearboxes are weak.
