started the car yesterday and noticed a drip coming from under the dash in the passenger footwell, and seems to be dripping off the heater blower. dead heater matrix by any chance?

Sounds like it... is your water level going down?  could be lucky and just be a leaking pipe... first thing i'd do is go and have a look, sooner rather than later.

Remove the scuttle panel and take off the blower mesh cover.

Undo the screw and push the clip to the right and lift off the mesh cover.

The foam around the bottom can shrink and perish with age.  Thus letting in water which drips through the fresh air blower.

Put a ring of silicone sealant around it.

Job done.

coolant level? remove expansion cap and listen for glugging or watch the level drop,look for any leaks inside car.If you have antifreeze in your coolant you should be able to tell wether its coolant or rain water coming through as antifreeze feels a little oily and if you wipe it off your hand it should still feel oily and it tastes sweet (dont taste too much!!!!!!)

scuttle tray full of water?/dirt/leaves if you park near a tree this will block drain holes.
does your heater work?

heaters is a dodgy one.  i used to have heat, but no blowers, but recently i have blowers and no heat

Kaboom heater matrix
Dismantle it and check it rather than loosing water fast then head gasket go!
