Supercharging an 8v

Does anyone know what is needed for an 8v supercharger conversion, is it worth it? and what gains would you see.

Nope not worth it, do a search this question has been asked many times.

you will see about 150/160bhp which with all the work required is not worth it.

the 2litre 16v will go nicely and is 150bhp standard

This has probably been asked many times but can you transplant the 16v head on to an 8v block or is that just a stupid question.

Most people on here will say it's just easier to buy another car i.e. a 1.8t. Not a lot of gains to be had from a NA engine over a turbod one tbh

most bang for buck is a 1.8t conversion. Only do a conversion on something that cant be bought, eg don't drop in a 2.0 16v just buy a valver

Ok thanks for the input, it needs to be a conversion of some type as i will be keeping the car and want it to stay looking standard.

Remember the G60 was a supercharged 8v, they thought that was worth it when they made it,  personally, as a project and as i one off, its something i would like to see more of,  its easy on the 8v due to the space available, no it wont make record power, but it WILL be something special!   personally, i would say DO IT,  it will be the biggest waste of money you ever spend, but the most rewarding and fun, or do it to a 16v,  same deal but more power...  But then where does that stop,  why not slap an R32 engine in there.. and superchage that...?   because you want to supercharge your 8V thats why... DO IT!  make it something special,  you will look back on it for the rest of your life knowing you DID IT!!!!!

I wish more people would play with foreced air on their standard engine,  do you want massive power, or the most power from the engine you already have?    if you want the latter,  go for it  but be warned you need to sort out aftermarket fuel injection, its not as scary as it sounds when you read up a bit about it and grasp the theory of it.  its all do-able.

 If you want massive power... dont ask questions about supercharging your golf... buy a lambo.      but thats not what you want is it

I think we all know that if horsepower is your ultimate aim there are cheaper/better/easier ways to go than a mk3 golf, i agree with the above^ and what i'm looking for is a project that will give a modest power hike but keep everything looking stock.
I've got a really nice standard 3 door 8v with a good history and strong and healthy mechanicals that i'd like to do something a bit different with, i've looked at a few of the supercharged clips on youtube and i like the way they sound and drive as it seems like a good way to keep reliability and driveability everyday without creating a highly strung pain in the backside and it also follows the VW bloodline so to speak.
