Graphics card advice
« on: 25 February 2012, 13:52 »
Which graphics card, looking at £50-60 bracket, with:

HDMI to support 1920x1080 resolution which I currently use on my 32" monitor*
Not fussed on graphics as I do play games like CIV4 (currently have a 8500GT 512mb, but nothing to impressive)
I'm an nVidia fan!
PCI-E

*Also can sound be streamed via graphics card and HDMI as this would be ideal for me as my creative speakers pick up a lot of noise when idle and would prefer to use the monitors speakers.

My builds a tower unit, think motherboard is 1.0 PCI-E revision, I know some of the ATI GFX cards have issues with the 1.0 interface over the 2.0 that they are designed for.

I see the 520GT is cheaper than the 430GT, not sure why even after reading this:

http://solidlystated.com/hardware/gt-520-vs-gt-430/

So whats better, clock speeds or bandwidth speeds, remember I don't really game.

ATI 5670HD - about £40 and its the best performance/£ in that bracket. Plus the XFI one has a massive heatsink and no fan - so its quiet

any ati card from the 5000 series i believe gives you sound via hdmi.

you can't be an ati or nvidia fanboy because you're not a hardcore gamer.

this is the future for you:

Everyone tells me Radeon is a better card, but I've allways bought Nivida running a 8600GT myself it doesn't have HDMI but it can process 1080P no problems through DVI without the sound!
I'm sure these 8600GT are like £40 now?
But heard good things about The Sapphire or Asus HD 5670 £60 odd pounds bargin!
If you can find a cheap one of these it might do the job but I would just go for a 5670 for the money!
Gainward Bliss GeForce 8600GT, 1024MB TV DD, DDR2, 2x DVI, VGA, TV-Out, HDTV, HDCP, PCI-E, SLI Graphics Card  for the money!
