Them nuts that hold your rear disc/bearings on
« on: 25 February 2012, 13:50 »
They have a crown like washer that sits on them preventing the nut to untighten... sits just before the split pin

Queastion, do all mk3's have them whether it be drum or disc on the back?

Mine keeps coming loose and the disc is rubbing on the carrier, i threw them away like a giant c0ck lol

oh dear :lipsrsealed:

Get them with a new bearing kit which you most likely need now

Yes they all have them....It shouldn't becoming loose if the washer and the splitpin is in place though as the nut itself is not tightened particularly tight to begin with so to allow free movement of the bearing.

The metal on metal screech was horrendous!

I put new discs, pads and bearing on last weekend and the bearing kits did not come with this 'bottle top' washer.

Ive been to scrappy and got some and it's as sweet as now so might have got away lucky with a lesson well learnt!

Cheers guys

you need to use them and put a split pin in so it doesn't come free again it will wear in and you will get a small amount of play but this is normal....thanks Rik

To minimise play in the bearings after you've put the wheel etc back on, fit the disc, keyed washer and hub nut, tighten up to about 30Nm then spin the disc several times in both directions. Loosen off the hub nut, then do back up hand tight (hand tight gripping with a socket on the nut) then fit the nut cap, split pin and hub cap.
