The Cam in a MK4 Anniversary
« on: 24 February 2012, 20:49 »
I'm looking at purchasing a Diesel Golf Anniversary but the ones I've been looking at generally have a higher mileage. With that in mind should I ensure that the cam has been replaced or is it just the cambelt that should have been replaced?

Forgive me ignorance - not a techy car man, unfortunately.

Camshaft needs to have been replaced or at least checked, and the cambelt - tensioner kit, water pump are also a must to have been done

I'm looking at the same as you mate petty much....... so, if there's an invoice stating the cambelt etc was changed at vw within the last 10k or so do you think it would be safe to assume the cams ok? or, could I assume vw told them the cam needs changing hence the sale?  :undecided:

seen a couple that state the cam has been changed but then the price seemed accordingly inflated......

Never assume - VW may not have checked for it or as you say they may have and hence the sale.

No real way of knowing unless you get it checked.
