8V GTI was running fine now not at all ELP please
« on: 23 February 2012, 15:48 »
Hi guys my 1990 mk2 golf GTI standard engine PB digi. I've had it for 3 years with very few problems its never really let me down. I broke a clip on the Dizzy so bought a new genuine one from VW replaced that all fine and good last year. I took the car out for a short spin last week and it started to stutter bought it back home, went back out to investigate the next day it started and died away. so far I've cleaned all the earths cleaned the plugs and leads, checked for spark on all the leads, checked the timing (spot on) checked compression thats fine, checked fuel thats fine too. cleaned out the air filter and checked all the electrical wires I can get my hands on and cleaned them with electrical contact spray. Still nothing its turning over freely but not even attempting to fire  :embarassed:
Any ideas?
cheers
Ian

Hall sender possible? jaaring the dizzy cap causing it to fail or just old age?
ECU next on the list.
You mean turns over engine moving and cranking ,but no fireup right?

Both items need to come off a working car swap over then test, unless you have a VAG reader for the ECU?
You can swap a hall sender unit off body, but the time it takes to take it apart and set it up its best for a Recon unit from somewhere?
Start with anyone in your area which has the same car and ask for help with swapping parts for testing fella?
Does it have an ISV? Even if does I still would expect it to fireup then die though.

ANYONE NEAR CORNWALL help this lad out?

yeah it has an ISV that was new about 6 months ago, mine didnt break but started to buzz.

thanks so far
