Im seriously considering a TT-RS. Do it if you like the car, im past the whole image bull now. 1st gen is a great car, they sold so well for a reason! Everyone thinks im a cock in mine anyway

Thats what I have been thinking, I was just so shocked when I slammed one through insurance. Then a cheeky remap on top they should be good for 260bhp... may have to give the doc a secret visit if I get one

For me it would always be a dark blue on a TT. I think they just look so much better in that colour.

I was thinking about TT's recently too, must be something in the air  :undecided:

The only thing I can think of is the aerodynamic recall they had with the Gen 1. I don't know if they recalled every car or if they just released a reworking with a rear spoiler for down force.

If it was me though I'd be tempted to go for the 3.2. I know it's more expensive to insure, and it doesn't tune very easily compared to a turbocharged engine, and it drinks more fuel, and it doesn't sound quite as good as the R32, but it just suits the TT IMO.

As stated, to replace the audi A4 estate.

Did you not buy the A4 as a load lugger to and from Uni? Good luck with the TT.

Yer, but it was also so that I could visit my missus up in edinburgh - a 600mile round trip. But she is moving back down to london so I will be getting the train again anyhow

Personally untouched I'm not so keen but with a bit of work the mk1s can be tasty!

I had a late model Mk1 Denim Blue 225 Coupe (53 reg from memory). The later versions (2002 and 2003 I think) had 18" alloys, sports suspension, alloy gearlever, silver couour around the headlights all std fit on top of the already standard xenons, full leather, heated seats etc.

I am 6"2" and had no issues what so ever with headroom. I also had a Mk2 TT also with no headroom issues.

The fuel consupmtion was not great as the combined was only just into the low 30's compared to modern engines getting mid 30's combined. I they they also recommend high octane fuel as well like the GTi.

If you can find a lowish mileage one they are pretty bullet proof if serviced regularly. There will obviously be the usual issues of maintaining a car with 4wd, high performance and a lot of electrical components.

overall an enjoyable ownership experience and something unusual to drive rather than the modern boxes

The recall was a lot more than that, susp mods, esp and the rear spoiler were fitted to help high speed stability.

Some cars plus most grey imports missed the recall and I would avoid those really.
