You should really also get a new seal too - A garage would replace this when they do an oil change to get a good tight seal.

if i remember correctly its a 6mm allen head bolt. I am always getting confused between the 3 vw's in our house golf, polo and passat.

you should have got a new o ring for the oil filter - provided its the paper type

done the oil change, looks like the service i paid for last year was money down the drain, looks like they did  nothing and nothing had been replaced!!!
Iam gonna have to do regular oil changes till the oil looks half decent now..

vw's have started to go for either torx or allen head bolts now. the calipers are all allen head bolts!

i'm thinking the bolt must be allen on my mum's polo

sugar, you have just joined my school of thought

well this afternoon iam going back to the garage that done my cambelt TO KICK OFF as i think ive figured out whats causing the knocking sound.

First of all i found a bottle of tip-ex which had fallen down on my steering rack n torson bar (think thats how its spelt)and has f*cking leaked everywhere.

And looking at the engine mount, the bolt looks double thread and is not sitting where it should be, hence when i pull away there is a loud knock..

I have problem after problem with my car and its not the car as such its the f*cking garages f*cking it up all the time.

just thought i let people know that the knocking sound that i was hearing when pulling away was bcoz the people who changed my cambelt didnt do the engine mount up tight enough

All sorted now yay.
