Mk5 gti ed30 question
« on: 20 February 2012, 11:56 »
Hi all! Been a while since i was last on the forum. Previously had a mk3.
Now looking to get a mk5 gti, i've seen one, an ed30 stage 2remapped with loads of extras. However its a cat b repair. The seller has vosa certificates to say its been repaired fully and is road safe/legal. I can get it for around 6700. Should i bother or steer well clear?

Thanks
Yuley

CAT B

Category B Insurance Write Off - the vehicle must not be used again but non- structural and roadworthy parts and components may be recovered for use in other vehicles. Care must be taken to ensure that they are not critical components with important safety functions. Again there are several online companies who will offer significant amounts of money for Category B Insurance Write Off vehicles.

You sure they didn't say CAT D??

It shouldn't even be on the road!!!!

I can only imagine you misheard and they said CAT D and not B as Rhyso has said.

All depends how much you want to save really. Personally I wouldn't bother with anything like that for piece of mind more than anything.

My advice is to avoid it like the plague, cat b should not be on the road, it seems very strange that it is back on the road.

This is what i always liked about this forum, you can ask a question and no one ever shoots you down, even if its a silly question. I hope i do get a mk5 so i have a reason to be back on here again lol
