So engineers report only if DOWN sizing.. will have to take it to a garage for them to sign work off as safe, easy, get mot on it, obviously same time and send details off to dvla... Sound about right?

All depends on your insurance company, you really need to speak to them and confirm what they need to cover the conversion.

engineers report is the easy bit, have you got a mate that owns a garage? all you need is for him to write a note saying its in roadworthy condition.

insurance is the biggest pig now tho, it will cost more to insure after the engine change than what a factory 1.8t costs. ive had it happen myself with an old escort, swapped the engine to a diesel and insurance sky rocketed, some companies were even refusing insurance!!!

Your crazy dave, surely selling your current car and buying a new golf would be cheaper

I just hate how the mk4 has devalued, what 3 years ago they were 4k easy, now 1.5-2k for a good one and most are utter rubbish and slow for a less proce  Yet the AGU is a good car and you do stand to loose a bit by changing cars especially the attachment you make with some cars, in particularly when they are reliable.

Thought with DVLA you fill a form, supply evidence of conversion etc and sometimes they request a VIC test for £40 to verify parts where installed with provided details and non stolen parts, but this is more common with write-offs.

I got some long a$$ email from the DVLA where I inquired about engine transplants and kit cars, yet they where useless and left grey area's in a lot of questions and told me F'all regarding engine transplants. All I did learn was the 4.2L audi v8 99reg is only £250 to road tax
