Fire extinguisher mounting advice
« on: 16 February 2012, 18:00 »
Got myself this beast as it's an MSA requirement to compete in karting. I've decided to bolt the support in the car so I can carry the extinguisher in the car at all times, be it on a race weekend and as a daily driver (would hate to see the car go up in flames). Where is the best place to mount it, obviously in the boot, but were in the boot and how??

Make sure it's mounted nicely, I've had one of these discharge in my face whilst I was driving along a dual carriageway, I **** myself. There was a massive bang (the thing falling over lol) and then the whole cab filled with what I thought was smoke lol I thought a petrol mower on the back had blown up. Given I knew how many gas canisters and litres of petrol were on the van I have never run so fast in my life LOL.

p.s. never let someone else load your van lol

Well it's got the pin and the safety plastic tie that holds the pin in so there's no danger of it going off

its a requirement for karting but your fitting one to your road car is this right?

Ive got a small extinguisher mounted to the front of the passenger seat frame in my mk2, can you get it on there?

Correct. When I'm at the races I can take it out of the mount and keep it by the entrance of the gazebo where it has to be, and the rest of the time it's in my car, just in case. I wanted it on passenger footwell, but it's a 2kg one so it's too big. Mounted it in the boot in the end.

Looks like a 1kg. This one looks pretty cool to have within arms reach.

Whatever you buy, make sure it's an ABC rated one, means it will put out A (organic materials like paper, wood, card, etc), B (flammable liquids like gasoline) and C (electrical fires).
