Will this fail MOT - Traction Warning light...
« on: 16 February 2012, 15:56 »
Hi all,

Got to get my car MOT'd in May and I'm concerned it may fail because there is a light on on the dash. The light is a car with some skiddy lines coming out the back.

Having chucked it on VAG-Com it's this:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 03: ABS Brakes        Labels: 1K0-907-379-MK60-F.lbl
   Part No SW: 1K0 907 379 AA    HW: 1K0 907 379 AA
   Component: ESP FRONT MK60      0102
   Revision: 00H13001
   Coding: 0021190
   Shop #: WSC 01324 785 00200
   VCID: 71E33CE71132

1 Fault Found:
01435 - Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201)
012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Which is a pain to sort and not something I'm willing to attempt myself as I understand it will involve bleeding the breaking system etc.

I'm happy to leave it like this until I can get something sorted as the ABS still works fine, although the traction control doesn't appear to.

Basically I need to know if this will fail the MOT as I'll have to sort it sooner rather than later if it will. If it would only go down as an advisory I'll leave it for now as my priority has to be sorting out a new daily with the money I have.

Thanks,

DJ

Brake pressure sensor failure is the good old bosch ABS Pump muck up, they all do it sooner or later, new ABS unit or ECM is required, however,  it will pass MOT As luckly on these it doesnt bring the ABS Lamp on, but this year its all going to change, for now any other warning light is an advisory,  soon it WILL Fail if any warning lights are on.  but im not sure when, i seem to remember being april, so you might be better off getting it in for an early MOT or repairing.

I highly recommend BBA Reman for a new unit, you can actually remove the ECU From the pump so you can still use the car while its away for repair.

Thanks mate :)

I'm wondering about getting it done early to be honest with you, I just don't think I can afford to get it put right for a good few months.

How early can you get it MOT'd?

Thanks,

DJ

New Mot rules come out 1st April, why don't you get a new Mot mid march?

That's what I'm thinking now, but I don't know how early you are allowed to do it, don't think it's due until mid/end of May.

you can do it when ever you like, it will just mean you loose what was left,   if you do it 1 month before you get 13 months thats all.   I have MOT'd a car with 4 months left to help sell it without issue.
