I dont want just the quickest car as you can see from my past buy. I want a good all rounder that will also be able to upset some of its rivals in stand guise. If i got a 130 I wouldnt bother with the remap. The idea with the GTI is you kind of have to remap it to release its potential. I was hoping that a stage 1 will be a comparable car to the 130.

Ive taken a long time to narrow my list and accept that a 'grown up' car might be the way to go. I will be running it for 4/5 years so wanted something that will be classless and give me no problems.

Ive looked at the Cupra but just down find it as attractive as the GTI. Plus I love the GTI dash. I take it a stage1 GTI will be on the same level as the Cupra due to similar power levels. I know it must look like im only interested in getting the 'fastest' car but im not. I just wanted to make sure the GTI 'weakpoint' could be overcome and turn it into a class leader in all areas.

In answer to your above question, a stage 1 GTI will beat the 130i.

The video's Hurdy posted show two comparisons between the Golf R32 and the BMW 130i. In both the R32 is quicker. A remapped GTI is quicker than an R32. Therefore a remapped GTI is quicker than a 130i.

If you want a 'grown up car' the buy a Mk5 or an A3 or a BMW 1.

Why worry about 0-60 times? how many 'grown up' people reguarly do pointless 0-60 mph drag races from traffic lights?  :undecided:

A Mk5 GTI would be a very nice car to live with on a day to day basis. If you want a fast car, by a Caterham or an Mitsubishi EVO Turbo nutter or something.

I think I need to clarify 'grown up'. I want something classless and that wont age. Something that is respectable and doesnt look like a kid and halfords build it. Although im being egged towards that I still want something with a little devil lurking underneath for when im on my own and the big kid surfaces. Surely that makes sense Organisys?

Think he also said something along the lines it will waft along on the school run to drop the kids off and then you can drive it back home like you've been stung like a bee  :laugh: :laugh:

GTI would definitely be the best of the three once it's had a re-map.  VW seem to sell all their cars in "boring" setting, with you needing to get it mapped to tap into it's real power.  If I were you I'd get a better exhaust as well.  Not only is it going to improve performance, it'll sound veeeery nice as well.

Might be pushing my budget a little to get a map, dv and an exhaust plus a nice example. Perhaps the exhaust for xmas or something......

I wouldnt buy anything that 'needed' a remap. Get a car thats good for you out the box. Remapping a car just shows it isnt very good out the box. The whole 'a remapped GTI is better than an R32' argument for example. The R32 is quick enough out the box, if the GTI has to be remapped to be as quick then its the lesser car - end. Same applies to anything that needs modding.

Its nice to know you can remap something down the line if you become bored. But buy a car which you like out the box. What happens when you become bored in a years time, as you are already running a modded car.
