What Do You Think??
« on: 22 May 2005, 13:07 »
Well my j reg 8v with only 68k and FSh etc... has just been hit and i reakon it will be written off  Someone has side swiped it and knakered the front wheel and the front wing and drivers door and dented the rear door. Now bad as this sounds it has not hit the A pillar or the sills or the B pillar so all might not be as bad as i thought....my question is, is this the sort of thing that people would be interested in buying as a summer project? It is too early to think about price or anything like that ( i don't know what i will get from the ins. co. or even if they will let me keep the car) all i am trying to do is see what peoples thoughts are. so any ideas are welcome!

If there is no damage to the pillars or sills it should not be too bad.  What about replacing the panels and doors?  See what the engineers inspection says.  Had a car hit a few years ago- one garage told me it was a write-off, another repaired it within the percentage value set by my insurers.

Don't be too hasty about giving it away!

Now here is the good thing about VWs.

All the panels are very easy to come by, (usually) and they all unscrew and come off. No welding or anything on them.

Front wings are probably going to be the hardest to come by and if you happen to rebuild it then a pattern one will make the bonnet look stunted.

Doors are an easy swap, just take all the ancilaries out of the inside and swap them over.

Honestly it depends on how much you want to rebuild it. If you are not feeling the rebuild and make it better vibe then you would get more pennies back for breaking it.

Hope this helps.
