hi just got my 1st gti last nite but it needs a gearbox . how much should i be looking to pay for one? or has anyone got one? i mite even take engien and box if its the rite prices lol am in scotland but willing to travel a bit hope yous can help me thanks

hi bud. They about £50+ it should be a dfq code depends on the year of your car. The mk3 8iv gti boxes afre very weak. People say go for the mk2 8v gti boxes. Also beast to look in the classifieds for a box.

Gearboxes cost more than the engine tbh. There will be 8v lumps with reasonable milage all day long for £50, but for a reasonable gearbox expect to pay £100 upwards before delivery.

Just wondering... is there much difference between the two boxes, fitting wise?
because im in the same situation, need a gearbox.

Both boxes are 020 code which is just the shape of it. Internal gear ratios will be different though. As sharki said, DFQ is the code for the mk3 8v, but mk2 will be different. Have a search as its probs been mentioned in the past if they are ok to interchange with regard to ratios.

DFQ and CHE are the same ratios as far as im aware?

Che is just an earlier weaker box?

thanks for the help guys.
i tryd to drive the car today and its like theres no gears to find but then some times it finds one lol is there any way i could test the linkage for play or test the box, b4 i go spend 100 buks on a new box??
