You do look like a bit of an oik.

Thing is you're starting to get a bit jowly and senior looking.

You're just being groomed for upper-middle-management.

Enjoy it.

Look through John Lewis's menswear section - check out some of the models and maybe align yourself with some of their looks.  You'll go far with a few tweaks, young man.

Look up High Times in Middle Management by Doloroso, if you haven't heard it before.  You'll enjoy.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

I am utterly gobsmacked at this!

In my 15 years in banking and in teaching I've never come across anything like this. I could understand if you were a scruffy twit but you look fine.

If appearances regarding facial hair etc were paramount it should have been discussed at interview.

Sounds like a classic case of a dicky boss trying to find fault with someone they feel threatened by...

Nick, Its probably just office gossip, you've probably been talked about... testing the water I would say, don't worry about it, unless your appearance is questioned again...

Smoking at work is something I hate, cant stand to be served in a shop by someone that had just nipped out on fag break, I also hate to see employees standing out the back of the building having a "smoke"  I would also object, if I was a non smoker, to other smoking employees getting preferential treatment, and the benefit of extra ciggy breaks! I have found that smokers in general, see that theirs nothing wrong with this practice... and honestly, If I had my way, I would ban smoking at work entirely!
I also know of more than a couple of cases, where people have gone to job interviews, and not been given the job because they smell of smoke!

Socially, I have absolutely no problem with anyone smoking, and I will never raise the subject, or, other than this thread, give my opinion...

Nothing personal.

Thom

I would say that he is just stamping his authority on you. One day I went to work and had to sit on the beach for an hour during lunch cos I was so hungover and still no one said anything. That's in the insane world of the architectural practice. I Wouldn't worry definitely wouldn't worry.

You hardly look scruffy! I understand that some times is more important to look smart than others But thats something i'm sure yoir more than capable of judging yourself. Ignore him

I'm so glad i don't work in an office where things like this are expected! I did however take some photos for a corporate event. And was asked to take my plug out. I still stand by it looks worse without it in than it does with it in but hey ho.
