15" BBS RZ's, which tyre size?

I just took delivery of a brand new, still in the box set of 15" BBS RZ alloys for my mystic blue GTi. Snapped them up off ebay for £265 , they are in mint condition and have never been fitted to a car by the look of them. They are not split rims but the dished part of the rims are polished.

As they did not come with tyres I thought I'd see what size any of you might recommend. My existing rims are standard  later Mk3 Gti ones (not solitude's or speedines), 15" x 6" or 6.5" I think . These are fitted with 205/50/15 tyres. The BBS rims are 15" x 7".

I know 195/50/15's will fit 15" x 7" rims, but as my standard rims are narrower and have a wider tyre I'm not sure what would be the best size to go for. I don't really want to go for the stretched look with them.

The car itself is on standard non lowered suspension (though this may change in the future ), with the plastic wheel arches still fitted.

I'm in no great hurry to get these on the car, as it is going in the bodyshop in about 2 weeks time to a have some minor paint and dent repairs carried out. But any advice on tyre size would be much appreciated.

I would stick to either 195/50/15's or 205/50/15's

any change in profile will affect your speedometer reading!

I was initially looking for a set of 16" BBS RX II's, as I've seen some fitted to Mk3's on here and they look very smart. But I couldn't see any on ebay at the moment and they are very expensive new. So when these 15" RZ's came up (looking similar to early VR6 rims) I snapped them up straight away, wanting to retain more of an OEM look to the car.

I will try and post up some pics when I get the bodywork done and rims fitted.

Had a closer look at the boxes they came in, and in addition to saying RZ on the boxes, they also say Classic Line. The current version of BBS RZs don't look anything like these . These are a cross spoke design like the old RS ones.

     On a 6.5 rim you can use the 205/50/15 happily but if you try anything wider on the 7's you might find them fouling on the arch's and unless you know a trye fitter like me you wont be able to try before you buy..... :wink:I've got 205's on my l-plate gti..and they sit quite happily..
