Speeding ticket?
« on: 11 February 2012, 10:56 »
Right this morning was doing 60 in a 60 zone on a dual carriage way and it then goes to a 50 zone and at the end of the 50 zone was a van with a speed camera in. I stupidly didnt spot it until last mine as the sun is low and sort of on a bendish.....I was doing about 53-54mph according to the speedmeter in the car but the sat nav said 51mph? Any chance of me getting a ticket?

always a chance, even at 51 you can be done cause the limit is 50.

however with the speedo reading out ect you proberbly were going 50-51, and normally councils give guide lines(remember there only guides not rules) saying 10% ish. so chances are your ok, but you will find out in the next few days.

if you get a speeding ticket just take it on the chin nothing more you can do now but wait and see

I was about half way thru the 50 zone before I noticed it but I wasnt pushing the car anyway - listening to some chilled music. I know they have to give some time to allow the car to speed down but dont know when they start measuring the 50 zone :(

I'v done that sort of thing many times, and usually its because you're concentrating on the road, and the flow of the traffic, by the time you've spotted the van, and checked your speed, he's already got you...
The Police seem to be using a lot of discretion, and playing fair atm, I doubt whether you'll get a ticket

they start measuring at the point of the 50 sign, a 50 zone is a 50 zone, same as if you blew just .1 over the limit for drink driving, you still over the limit you will get done.

they do have  abit of leniency with things like human error and normally allow you to be 54 or so in a 50 zone before you get done but depends on what the coppers like, but they can do you for being over 50 as soon as you go into the 50 zone, chances are they wouldnt cause the copper would have to be a right richard to do that.

and speeding tickets normally come within 14 days yes

Minimum speed you'll get done is 57mph, as the minimum enforceable with a laser camera in a van is 10% + 2mph. If you think you were doing 53mph then it's unlikely. However, you say yourself you weren't concentrating, and depending on the type of camera being used you could have been caught up to 1000 metres away.

Hang on to that soap on a rope...
