how do you wire a car stereo direct to a 12v battery?

As per title. Im trying to make a kinda portable boombox for taking to festivals.

Have a car stereo, with no iso so just a 16 pin plug.

Got a bosch battery from a v8 rangerover rated at 800a. What im struggling with is what pins to use, and obv putting 800a direct to the stereo isnt good for it and making a rather pungant burning smell  :cool: :grin:

So what id like to know how to do it properly??? Cheers guys

Red and yellow on the positive side
Black on the negative side.

Yeah id of done that, but have no leads for the the stereo. just the 16 pins in the back, no power lead  :cry:

and what about the amp rating?

why not just buy a cheep cd player that can take betteries, i got one for £5 from a second hand shop to use wen we went camping and lasted a good 12 hours off a few of those big circle batteries, alot more easier than carrying around a 12v battery, a car cd player and a few speekers.

i have a feeling youde need to put some fuse or resistor in there, not sure though cause not too clued up on the whole battery-cd player side of things, all  i knew when i put my headunit in is this wire needs to be connected to this haha

12v is 12v it doesnt matter on the 800ah that is just the cranking amps provided.You can safely put the headunit onto it.
Regarding which pin to use,you would need to find a manual for the specific spec headunit you have.
Me personally if i had to,would whip the top off and have a look at the pcb to see which 2 pins feed the large coil/cap inside.

Or just buy a cheap cd player and 2 packs of batteries  :grin:

Thats not as fun :-P i had all this stuff lying around so thought id try.

The idea is that its on a kinda trolley so can stivk all my beer etc in it allso instead of carrying holdalls.. just to make the trek from car to campsite at festivals easier... saw afew people doing it last year and thought it was a great idea  :smiley:
