Evening folk....
« on: 10 February 2012, 19:36 »
Just joined here and have a very quick question for you.

I've got a mark 5, 57 plate golf with low miles.

The other day the ABS/Tire Sensor light came on.

I've had it plugged into the computer and the fault code is 059b?

I hear it is quite a common fault.....but is it expensive to put right?

Thanks for your time....

Are your tyre pressures ok?
If they are, try pressing the TPMS in front of the gear stick till you hear a bong. Hopefully the warning light should go off with the reset.
Without traction power is nothing!

What type of scanner was it?  Did it give you any more information?

There are problems where the pressure sensor within the ABS pump itself fails.  Sadly you can't replace the sensor by itself; its a new pump job.  This happened to a friend of mine; it cost the garage £1100 to put right........

I'm not entirely sure.

I took it to the garage and the guy plugged it in, told me it was 059b but didn't mention anything else.

He did mention something about ABS pressure sensor though?

Would that indicate a new pump is required??

Sounds very much like what happened to my mate   Luckily for him it was covered under the garage's warranty

If you have to fork out for the repair yourself I'd certainly contact VW UK and see if you can get it done FOC or at least some goodwill towards it as they were quite a common problem on the MK5 and Touran too

Oh right i see. Not so good.

Is there any chance it might just be the ABS pressure sensor?

Not the whole pump etc?

Fingers crossed anyways....

(Hypethetically)

What would happen if......i didn't get this fixed?!

That's the thing, the sensor is in the pump I believe so you can't replace just that

I believe this is now an MOT fail so you'll have to get it fixed sooner or later.
