16v skirt extensions
« on: 20 May 2005, 10:24 »
Hi guys I wondered if someone could give me some advice.
My Mk3 16v has had the arch extensions removed but still has the original skirts, but now I'm left with a 2-2.5 inch gap at the bottom of each front arch where the old arch ext would of been.
I ordered what i thought i needed from my local VW dealer but they have sent totally the wrong part.
Ive seen other gtis with the arches removed and they have like "end caps" at the end of the front part of the skirts.
Anyone know if that part is available from VW, or if such part exists?
Starting to do my nut as the car looks incomplete.
Advice appreciated.

From memory, the arch 'extensions' don't go all the way to bottom anyway. They sit above the sideskirts.

Think it is the end caps you need.

(or remove the sideskirts alltogether!) It will still look okay.

Thats what i thought i ordered at VW but theyve sent me something totally wrong.
Its literally about 2ish inches long, looks like i need one like on the rear end of the skirt.
Do you know if that is avalible from VW before i ring them?
Im abit anoyed as ive waited a week for these 2 parts, only sent me 1, the other is on back order and its the wrong bloody parts anyway!!

If you are able to get to parts desk at VW, they have a PC and can 'explode' the cad drawing of a golf to show every component. You can then show them what you mean and hopefully exchange the parts you've been sent. I don't think VW are very expensive for sideskirt bits, but if they are, go to a breakers yard and get what you need.

Yeah thanks for that.
My VW dealer do not have a parts person there, just sales reps.
Its like pulling teeth, at least i know i can get them before i go down and give them a slap.
Thanks mate
