Is it worth it???
« on: 08 February 2012, 19:09 »
hello guys right im after a little bit of help I sold my mk4 last week and am now on the look for a mk5 gti. I have seen one for sale that im hopefully going to look at tomorrow its up for £7,995 heres the details 2005 metallic black dsg with full heated black leather interior, ten speaker upgrade with 6 cd changer, winter pack, factory alarm with window closure from key pad, paddles shift, zenon auto lights, tyre deflation sensor, dual climate control, 69,000 miles, full vw service history.
Is that priced about right? and also is there anything i need to look out for when buying eg. common faults with any of those extras and also i dont think the cambelt has been done yet i do plan to have it done soon but will it be ok for another few weeks? thanks

when you say window closure from keypad, do you mean keyfob? if so they all do that!

also tyre deflation sensor is standard, but I guess compared to a mk4 is it an extra!

Sounds good mate but on that year I think I would feel happier paying £6495

Good luck with it, just got my DSG gti and love it!

The mk5 is susceptible to corrosion around the front wheel arches, caused by the plastic wheel arch liner rubbing against the inner edge of the wheel arch flange. I think another weak area is around the tailgate handle on early models, so check these areas for corrosion or repairs.

If it's got 18" Monzas, these have a diamond cut finish, which is prone to white worm corrosion. Also, if they have any kerbing damage, they're also difficult to refurbish.

The cambelt should have been changed at 4 years, irrespective of mileage, so it will be due another cambelt change in 2013. If it's got full VW service history, then the service book should show that this work was done in 2009. Always a good idea to get the water pump changed at the same time as the cambelt.

The DSG gearbox should also have had the oil and filter changed at 40k miles. Again, if it's got full VW service history, the service book should confirm this work was carried out.

Hope the car checks out OK. Good luck if you buy it..............I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Yeh mate I bought the car I will post some pics when I have polished it as it got pretty dirty on the drive home, but I love it the dsg is brilliant and it's a lot quicker then I expected my 1.8T was mapped and this seems a lot faster and I thought they would be pretty similar. The interior is so nice I love it I'm just trying to get the hang of the paddles as I have never had them or an automatic. Just hoping to get the money together now for a remap I was hoping to stage 2 it but I won't have the money for a bit so for now will just have the map done.
