A few problems
« on: 20 May 2005, 00:04 »
Ok, well i've been driving my golf for 24 hours and i've noticed a few things.
1. Tracking was way off and the drivers side front tyre was bald on the inside.  2 new front tyres and tracking = sorted!
2. Engine temp rising to about 5/8ths of the way up on the guage, rad fan not coming on. = any suggestions? (possible temp sender fault?)
3. Bloody annoying rattle from the boot - not tools, or spare wheel!
Any advice or tips grealy appreciated as ususal, Cheers Guys!

oh btw it's a Mk2 Driver 1990 (1.6 carb)

2) thermostat fault and temp sender fault possible. Sounds more temp sender tbh if nothing is coming on.

3) parcel shelf supports they work their way loose and begin to rattle after a few years. Put some tape on the mounting points and then reattatch them. Should sort it out.

Now back to bed after a f**king fire alarm went off for all of 30 seconds.

Take the radiator temp sender plug off (bottom right hand side of the rad, from outside the engine bay) and bridge the pins with a paperclip or some wire, if the fan comes on both speeds then its likely to be the temp sender in the radiator thats gone.

Does it stay at the half way mark when driving along?  If not then you might have a problem with the temp sender (in the flange at the front of the block, its the black one underneath with a red/yellow wire)
