« on: 05 February 2012, 21:51 »
right then, I know this isnt the best place to ask for sensible and useful advice.

however, I am sure they will give me a laugh if nowt else.

but come tuesday morning, I will be crapping mesen.

going for a job interview i didnt even apply for, its higher level than i originally applied for but they saw my CV and shortlisted me

its a panel of 3 managers.

i have been told it will be at least 60 minutes in duration

I think I am prepared as i can be knowing this could really be a life changing job for me and my family and have not had to do anything like this for 24 years  last time I was 16 and had my mum taking me to the RAF Careers office

Suit - check

Clean shave, comment as to why you are capable of the higher level job (they must see something in you, they wouldn't waste an hour of 3 people's time otherwise), dont fold your arms and only undo your suit buttons if they have theirs undone too.  Good luck.

Don't forget fresh breath & deodorant

On a more serious note, the best thing you can do is stay calm, be yourself and come across as confident but not arrogant. Where is the job? PM me if you don't want to share publicly

as said just stay calm. they obviously saw potential in you to short list you.

aslong as you have done research into what the job/company entails, what kinda stuff youle be doing, and thought up things like why your suited for the job and can back it up with examples it shouldnt be too bad.

Would suggest NOT sh!tting yourself either before or during the interview. The stench is off-putting and your funny walk (and stain) on your way out will not result in any further shortlisting...

PS If you DON'T know the answer for something do not try and blag it. Honesty is your friend here - they will be professional enough to see through a blag

dont fold your arms and only undo your suit buttons if they have theirs undone too.  Good luck.

Agree with first part, second part is rubbish.

If it's a single-breasted suit the jacket buttons should not be done up, unless you're some sort of a complete plonker.

Have a list of 4-5 questions you want to ask them about the job prepared for the end of the interview.  This is as much you interviewing them as it is them interviewing you.  They will be pleasantly surprised if you pull some good questions out (even 1-2).

Make them open questions - how why what ones.

Ensure you have the names of each of the interview panel and look them up on LinkedIn.  Pre-stalk them on Google, too and see if their profiles give you any clues to their interests and play to the cloud accordingly.  You also want to know who's the most senior before you go in and figure out the influences between the three while you're in there.

Ask if there's anything they would like you to prepare for the interview beforehand.

Don't be afraid to say 'I don't know the answer to that, but I'm happy to get back to you, if you'd like'.  Sometimes it's not knowing all the answers that matters, it's showing that you are willing to admit you don't know, but will sort that knowledge out.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.
