ACC INFO
« on: 04 February 2012, 18:41 »
Now had my GTD for nearly 3 months now, and am just getting used to the DSG and ACC features [business not too busy, so not many miles done]

Obviously the ACC adjusts the damper settings, but does it do anything else ?.......tighten steering ? alter throttle response ? make adjustment to engine map etc ?

AFAIK there's no change to the map but it does improve throttle response and steering assist.
Currently pootling around in our family wagen, a Tiguan SEL 😂

Its mainly about the dampers. The steering gets heavier but only in sport mode. I don't believe the throttle response is changed in any of the modes..

ACC is one option I want to try

What's the general consensus from those who have had good experience of driving both ACC and non ACC Golfs (i.e people who have driven both and can make a direct comparison).

Current : Seat Cupra Lux, DSG, Magnetic Grey, Sept 2019
Gone :    Golf Mk 7 R, 5dr DSG, Pure White, March 2017

I think it's one of the best things about the car. I don't think I'll get another car without a system like this. Comfort mode on the motorway is remarkable when you remember you're in a hot hatch with 18" wheels and sports suspension. It really just glides and irons out undulations. You really need a pretty good surface for sports mode but it's good when the chance comes around to use it. Corners very flat and the weightier steering is nice

Normal on ACC seems slightly more compliant than a GTI on standard dampers.
Comfort great on potholed town roads, but I find it alarmingly floaty out on the open road ay 60+
Sport is too harsh for all but the smoothest roads, but the sharper steering and stiffer rear damping makes in a breeze to get the tail wagging.

Overall, I consider it well worth it.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

Agree with all above, I decided not to opt for the option as I thought I'd be ok with the raw GiT suspension. How wrong was I, it does get very tiresome, esp on low profile tyres !!
Always go for the ACC option, esp if you have a dodgy back
