well im biased AWD all day long,and its not just for the small amount of snow we get every year but for the wet/damp roads 70% for the rest of the year!

I've mainly had fwd. I do like the fact when your in trouble (sideways) you can pull ya self out. only good thing about it.
Drove a new Nissan GTR on a track day and grip was outstanding, but when it let go it understeered a lot. I thought the same with my mates S2.
I have a BMW now and find that I can get on the power bit ealier coming out of corners. Obviously more grip due to weight transfer. So faster than a fwd and doesn't understeer like a awd, if it does you can correct it.


For the smile factor, that's what driving is about right? Rwd is much better for me.

There are too many factors to simply state one or the other.

A good FWD chassis is better than a crap RWD one.
A good AWD chassis is great...but a bad one awful.
RWD chassis can still understeer.

I guess it depends what you use the car for, where you live, and how often you want to drive it...as well as the car itself.

But I haven't drove a fwd or rwd car in the same class.

Well they don't make fwd cars like that. They can't handle it. To compare a rwd car to the Nissan, I would need to drive a 911 gt3 lol and I think I would enjoy that a lot more whether or not it was faster.

Understeer is the default choice for any OEM chassis.

Understeer is easy to dial out.

Once you've removed it on an AWD chassis then you're there, especially in the wet.

Well they don't make fwd cars like that. They can't handle it.

You obviously never had a lap out in Hurdy's old Golf.

Yeah defiantly! But just going on what I know.
A well setup awd would be faster than any fwd and rwd car, especially on track!

Not true...that's too big a generalisation.
Why can a RWD Gallardo be faster round a track than a 4wd Gallardo?
Why is a 911 GT3 faster round a track than a 911 Turbo?
Why is a GT3 faster round a track than a R8?

AWD means more weight...and more work for the fronts to do, bar the steering and 50-90% of the braking.
It can be faster...
But it's not a given.

4WD adds traction, not grip.
If the chassis is good enough, and inherently provided enough traction, 4WD is not required.
