Well if we are into the realms of dreaming:

A marvel of compromise and legacy platform more like.

Legacy platform?
996 was an entirely new platform.

Compromise?
Nothing gives traction like having the engine over the rear wheels...and nothing else goes 50:50 under heavy braking like a 911.

A mere 3.8 RS?

Sorry...it would have to be the 4.0 or nothing.
It's all about the dive planes!

Compromise in engineering design in relation to the legacy layout and the impact on positioning of major components and the packaging of the platform.

Ever heard the one about trying to replace turbo charger heat sheilds on a 996 Turbo?

Don't get me wrong, I love 'em, but it would be a 964 C4s probs for me, and then do my own take on a RS Rep.

and Nick, I am going to be a boring old fart here, but House first then a 911? (sorry!)

It would be a stretch and MrsH has agreed on principle if I sort the carpets, double glazing and a few other bits in the flat first.

I never understand that sort of split arse logic. "Yes dear, you can spent £10-12k on what you want, as long as you spend even more money on other stuff first"
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Oh, and I drove a 996 3.4 I think it was, and wasn't all that quick. Fun tho.

I agree...the 3.4 is awful.
It needs to be the 3.6...preferably in VarioRam & VarioCam spec.
