Quite amazing how engines have come along!

Take these as an example.

My old MK3 2.0 8V

Weighed 1035 kg
Got 34 mpg
It's Co2 emissions were 190 g/km
It's engine size was 1984 cc
It's power was 115 bhp
It's top speed was 123 mph
It went from 0-60 in 9.8 secs
It's tourqe was 166 Nm 122 lb-ft
It had a 5 speed box

Now, our new Polo TSI 1.2

Weighs 1013 kg
Gets 53 mpg
It's Co2 emissions are 124 g/km
It's engine size is 1197 cc
It's power is 105 bhp
It's top speed is 118 mph
It goes from 0-60 in 9.4 secs
It's torque is 175 Nm 129 lb-ft
It has a 6 speed box

Pretty damn impressive!

Not really. Just proof the VAG 2.0 8v lump of that era was wank.

GTI has gone back.

Yeah, I suppose it is a cool story... bro.

All I was getting at is how far VW engines have come since the mid 90's

2.8 VR6 2792 cc VR6 Petrol 174 PS (128 kW; 172 hp) @5800 rpm 235 N·m (173 lb·ft) @4200 rpm AAA 7.6 224 km/h (139 mph)

Just think too, back then a 2.8VR6 Golf MKIII only made 172bhp/173lbft with a top speed of 139mph and a 0-60mph of 7.5 seconds.

Still not as fast as a Stock 1.4 Polo GTI is today!!

1.2 has got a bit of a hand from a turbo and supercharger though!
