Mk3 Gti 16v veedub virgin
« on: 18 May 2005, 12:22 »
Hey peeps. I'm new to the vw scene, I'm coming over from the dark side (Escort S1 Rs Turbo).
Just picked up a Mk3 Gti 16v 3 door with 81k on the clock, full vag history, full cream heated leather.
Very nice.
Cant believe the following the vw badge has.
Just a few questions if anyone can shead any light on it would be much appreciated, Haynes manual is effin useless.
1) The ABS light is permanently on, anything obvious i should check first?
2) After looking on this forum i got a new ecu relay (#30) as the car is abit jerky in low revs, didn't seem to do much, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum.

First step with the ABS would be to get the diagnostics checked out.  Either at the dealer or a garage with the relevant equipment.  The most common causes of ABS problems seem to be damaged sensors, which are reasonably cheap and easy to replace.  I could be anything from a damaged ABS ring on a replaced brake disc to a complete control unit failure, or you might just need a fault code cleared.

The jerky running could be lots of things, plugs, leads, dirty throttle body, dirty isv, check carefully through the mk3 section and work your way through the options in cost order   Also, the diagnostic check might reveal a problem.

Good luck, hope you get it all sorted.

A VR6 isn't a way of life, it's just a car.

Thanks for the replies.
Just out of interest what is the interval the cam belt should be changed?
Looking through the history file I got with the car, the "timing belt" was changed 3k ago.
Is the cam belt and timing belt refered to as the same thing?

Thats cool then, I was abit sketchy about that. I had a cam belt go on a previous car- Very expensive.
Fitting m3 red/crystal lenses, crystal fogs and air in-take tonight- should look sweet after that.
Its already on Spax rsx coilovers and 17" OZ titan rims, its not perfect body wize but its gunna be gleaming after ive finished 18" TSW Pace rims to go on soon.
