Hi chaps!!  Going on a jaunt to Edinburgh over the wonderful A68 on Bank Holiday weekend so want to do a quick service.....what oil do you recommend?  Bog standard 8v? Are these servicing packs available online with plugs,filter,oil etc good value?(About £40)

mk2 8v? just use Quantum Silver Synta - its what VAG specifiy to use. can be got from German Swedish French along with a VAG Oil Filter for about £15

A second for Quantum silver over here too and make sure it's a VAG oil filter.  :smiley:

quantum silver has porsche approval!!! ... and a good genuine filter to keep the crap at bay.......

did you know quantum is a vw trademark!!

yep quantum it is make sure its silver as i reckon gold is a bit to thin, depends on the car tho

I use vegetable oil. Its cheap, easy to get and after your jouney you can cook your chips with it. Hmm, maybe not  :laugh: Stick with original or anything of same viscosity as long as its by a known manufacturer. Dont go too thin or leaks will appear!

Everything said before and if you don't have a local GSF then your local VAG stealership can supply it for £0.50 to £1 more than GSF :wink:
