Could it be that someone has wired in the extra one on your car, and the RHS one has blown, leaving just the LHS illuminated, which would be a fail even though there is one illuminated?

I have had a B3, B4, B5 and now a B6 Passat and none of them have had two rear fog lights. I believe it is pretty standard across the VW range to only have the one. So if your (offside) one is working then it is definitely not a fail.

Makes life a bit easier when it flies thru pal with no real issues, aaah well... if the previous owners would have done alot of the basic stuff i think my life would have been made much easier over the past 2 years
At least i know everything i replace for genuine parts is a step in the right direction, makes things easier to keep your eyes on when the whole car has had new replacement parts added in my 2 years of ownership
Cost's me money to keep it going, but i will tell you one thing, i would not be without it

Shocked they dont actually know that when they test cars all day

well if you the owner doesnt know when you would be doing a weekly / monthly lighting check

then an mot tester, who if you think about it wont see a MkII that often these days might not be sure.

just me,  ok

trust me buddy ive had the car 9 years now and it's taken me this long to get it to a standard where it flys through an mot,I'd hate to think what it's cost me over that time, but like you I wouldn't be without the old girl, keep on at it ull get there in the end, nothing that's worth doing is ever easy.
