Which one to go for?

Although the V5 is cheaper on insurance I doubt I'll be able to afford to run it as I do a fair few miles per week I've seen a few 115's for sale not too expensive either, what sort of gains could I see from a map? and is it expensive?

How many miles do you cover a year, if it is a lot then it has to be the diesel, the 1.8t is not too bad on fuel but the TDI will do double the mpg in real terms.

Whatever happens avoid the 2.0 and V5

It's not THAT many, maybe 10,000 - 15,000 miles per year but on a student budget  I'm not very good at estimating fuel costs really so wasn't too sure I was just convinced that I would use loads more fuel than my 1.4L. I worked out I get about 38mpg average out of it at the moment though due to thrashing it about to keep up with traffic.

I got about 17-28MPG in my 1.8T town driving and 35 motorway.

1.6 16v are quite nippy.

Hey, you say you want a GTI, and you obviously want to save £££.

How about a Polo 6n2 GTI. 1.6L and 0-60 in 8.5 secs. The same as a 1.8T. Food for thought...

1.6's suffer with gearbox problems, for the miles you do a TDI might be the better bet.
