Given the choice I'd prefer the Honda.  Much nicely packaged, better engineered and ultimately it was more fun to drive.
Are you doubting German engineering
Not doubting German engineering, just proving that honda is better

Mk4 gold is more about cruising, comfort and having abit of poke, the honda is more focused but can still be a daily. Old people and bad backs will always back the golf.....

Given the choice id have an R32, if im going to have bad MPG then i may aswell have a grunty V6 than a henry hoover

LOL. Funny you should mention bad backs...I'm 22 going on 52 with the way my back feels at the mo

  VW engineering is a bit belts and braces sometimes with not much finesse, Honda are the other way around but get the same result.

Hi, I'm new here and have a mk4 1.8t. I have owned it now for 3 years, its all standard plus polybushed and every sensor replaced. I look after it well and love it. Since I been playing with it, and this car has not been mapped or bigger turbo etc, its all completely original, it has kept up with a 2008 m3, an s500 a few scoobies and even an evo, though that left me for around 100 mtr lol, my question is, can't these people drive their flash cars properly, or is my car gonna blow up. My mpg is fantastic at any speed, pulls with constant accelleration from 2000rpm to redline and still wants to go. It's been running like this for over a year without any hickups apart from spark plugs which once replaced from bosche to ngk, the car has ran like silk. Is my car running lean, and being an engineer, I know that cosworth (mahle) built pistons for our cars. I also know the pressure and temp these things can take as well as our incredibly strong block and head. I have the agu engine so no 279valve and no limp mode. Our little k03 has only a 4mm shaft so apparently a poor point. But these were tested to destruction by Borgwarner, the makers and they pushed them to 300'000 rpm and still never failed after 10 mins of glowing. Oh, I have never lost against any ctr, cupra r, tt's or ashtray vxr. Have I discovered a secret or shall I wait for the big bang.

hi i have just had a play with a ctr on a long bypass near me,he had me at the lights for about 100 meters but i started reeling him in,i thought i would of got wasted as mines is only meant to be 180 bhp that is the first time iv git it some properly,it was spinning the front wheels in 2nd gear lol,im not sure it is 180 brake i think its more,i need to get on some rollers and see what the old girl is pushing
My mk 4 is totally standard, no chip or anything, agu engine and I can easily leave ctr on straight line, just not on corners yet. It has kept every bit of the way with an m3 and god they sound lovely at high revs. Kept with s500 on way home from work and he looked very surprised. Played with a few scoobies as wanted to see what my golf could do and pushed a megane 225. If you dont mind what could happen, wind that waste gate open till about 1/4 inch of thread left. our cosworth (mahle) pistons are forged and so can take running a lil lean no problem, the k03 was actually tested to 300'000 rpm for 10 minutes glowing without any failures, 4 times too and our blocks are cast iron. The turbo is beyond its efficientcy, but being little, is capable of the higher rpm speeds and stresses. Measure a gt30r blade diameter, then the shaft size. Now bring down that size of blade equally with the shaft diameter to the same size as a k03, you will see that that the k03 is bigger and so for stronger. Our new turbos, 300 quid lol, mines been running like this over a year now and regularly gets abused due to love my stomach being left behind and upsetting drivers of much more expensive cars. Oh, and the 5th gear pull, wow.

What a load of bollocks!

Proper race on a proper track, CTR would leave a Mk4 Golf for dust. fact.
