VW didn't really design the Golf to be as all out, more all round comfort/efficiency with good performance. The MK4 was the worst one so far. Getting 200bhp out of a VW 16v involves a big wallet and a lot of time/expertise. VTEC engine it's a lot easier, the VW 5 valve tech was an improvement mind.

Actually the 5v tech wasn't all that great, hence why they changed back to 4v for the 2.0tfsi engine.
A 16v engine actually breathes better than a 20v .... go figure :embarassed:

wasn't the switch back to 4v more to do with making space for the injector?

My VR beats Type R's all day long as soon as theres a little bit of an up hill gradient, the torque figures are sh!te on the Type R's
The 2nd Gens (around 2002) are 200 BHP but only 145ft/ib
The 3rd Gens (2005 on) are 198bhp and only 142ft/lb
Dom's GTI T would eat most Type R's all day long, and standard GTI T's wont be far behind
That's not much more than an ABF
