So, despite it being 20-30% cheaper to make or whatever, how many of us seriously believe it'll be cheaper to buy.

Er, that'll be none of us then!!!

Timescale irrelevant, the step in Alloy Bonnet and roof sound very good....

VW seem to be understanding that they can make a car just as quick and fun to drive with less power, if they reduce the weight and get the structural integrity spot.

I'm exicited now about the mk7 GTi, looks like we will get a taster with the new A3.

The current Mk6 is of course not much more than a heavily facelifted Mk5

It was changed, Audi just did the right thing and called it a facelift, rather than seeing if mugs bought into the whole 'new model' bull

They sure did...they made the S3 look more like the A3 S-Line.

What makes a new model exactly?
New engine? Check.
New suspension? Check.
New interior? Check.
New bodyshell? Check.
As well as new bumpers and lights. Check.

Can you explain the 'facelift' bit again when so much is changed, and the Mk6 physically larger than the Mk5.

A new model is just that; a new model. Not using an old one to add a few bits in.

Just read this on the Top Gear

http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/new-volkswagen-golf-gti-mark-7-2012-01-30

I'm liking the sound of the Mk7 GTI already

However A) Can't see it arriving in 2012 and B) 20-30% cheaper ( yeh righto )

The mark 7 sounds as if it's going to be a special car, can't wait will defiantly put as order in when it comes out.
Auto Express also has the mark 7 down for 2012 :)
