Clutch Problem

HI all.

My clutch on my car seems like its set in concrete. Its pretty hard to push down compared to any car ive driven!

Also it doesnt seem to bite that well, i seem to pull away around 2,000 rpm as it wont go anywhere with lower revs.?

Bite point isnt high or low, so is there a way to free it up a bit, its a pain in the arse!

Go for a new cable first, they strectch badly and if its the Auto adjust one bin it and put a manula adjust on. Mine was rock solid when i bought it and stuck a couple of inches short of full return new cable sorted it and easy to fit mate

he he sounds like my old race clutch. thought i would be clever and fit one and it was the biggest mistake i made , what a b!tch that thing was to drive around town,.

I bet it was a b!tch. Still good for the drag racing though. Bet it made wheel spins easy.

How easy are clutch cables to fit and how much do you they cost?

Just been looking them up on GSF as my self adjuster doesn't seem to be working too well at the moment. Manual adjust cables are £8.50 and self adjusters are about £15 then there is a fitting kit and some new rubbers for a couple of quid.
Think I'm gonna order a manual adjust cable today, I'm sick of not having any control over the adjustment when the automatic one is taking too long to adjust to the next click.

Go to Halfords, they are selling off the last of their MK2 Golf manual cables for £5 each!!

A few thing to consider :
                                  1: The clutch can feel heavy if the cable has worn ( over time )through the nylon inner casing .
                                  2: If the clutch is VERY heavy it can break the quadrant in the end of the gear box ( behind the green circular plate on the end... quite easy to replace )
                                  3; In extreme circumstances the center release shaft/rod ( which slides inside the input shaft ) can punch a hole through the center release plate in the clutch assembly ( I have seen a few that have done this ) . This makes it a right bu66er to get the box out as the release rod tends to get stuck  and you  can end up bending the rod and knackering the small oil seal and bronze bush in the end of the inputshaft.
  N.B. I would always recommend replacing the oil seal and bush when replacing the clutch assembly ( a small price to pay compared with replacing ( an oil contaminated  ) plate a few days later !!!
