Oil removal filter tool recommendations?
« on: 22 January 2012, 15:50 »
Basically I am after a good tool for various sized oil filter removal, I don't mind paying a reasonable amount for a kit. I have used the chain tools for a while and find them too fiddly and a pain in the back side on certain jobs, I also managed to break my one this weekend, so I quickly had to pop out and get a cap fat fits vw filters and attaches to a wrench, found these to be so easy and brilliant to use. However since I work on various cars doing basic servicing I was wondering what could be recommended as there's loads of kits and caps you can buy as well as different tools. I hate the chain wrench with a passion and will avoid this, but I noticed you get claw mechanisms etc as well.

What would you guys recommend? I mainly end up working on vags and fords?

you'll end up wanting 1 of each. if working on various random cars.

a good quality chain has it's uses, the claws work well as well and so do the cups.  the worst to get off are the eco filters when they have been overtorqued   chins are good at getting them off

all the VW's have gone bar 1.

I've bought the claw, but I was speaking to my mechanic who has 5 different tools, from the cup set to the strap, to the claw, he said best on he likes to use is the strap tool mentioned above in two sizes... I found this out after ordering the claw and a cup tool.

Thanks for the help guys :afro:
