iirc this is behind the plastic sheeting behind the door cards?
you might need to replace this if you can't peel it back easily enough!

i reckon it shouldn't be too easy to change, i know i managed to swap the one on the mk1 myself...
don't quote me!

Regulator and motor are bolted together.

Take off the door card, peel back the plastic membrane.

iirc three bolts hold the motor to the door, plus 2 bolts at the top and bottom of the window guide.

Make sure the window is up. Tape it to the door frame to hold it up when you remove the guide.

Loosen the glass from the holder at the top of the guide and then pull the bottom of the guide sideways, and then you can manoeuvre the whole regulator and motor assembly through the hole in the bottom of the door.

For £45 you may as well buy a new complete unit.  Over time the cables fray, snap, bvut just generally clog up the gear wheel with grease and filings.

Good advise there - BUT if yours are Genuine VW ones you MIGHT be able to clean them up and get them working again...

Do a search as this has been covered before.

The after market ones aren't that good from what I read....

I fitted lecky windows to my mk2 and one of the motors didnt work. I took the reg apart and took the motor apart but nothing look worn at all.

I showed it to an old school tv & hifi repair man and he soldered a new resistor onto the motor for £5. Works as good as all the others now. I gave all visible moving parts of the lecky setup a good clean and re-grease and I took apart the front regs and re-greased inside too. Get genuine parts from a car being broken on gaybay, 2nd hand OEM will be better than new cheap stuff.
