Driver side door window trim
« on: 20 January 2012, 21:32 »
Hi,

about 4 months a go I noticed bare metal on the driver side door trim that goes up the side of the window. It is as if the paint had been scraped off. This about the size of 5 pence piece. At the time I was not sure if I had done it msyself, some one tried to break in, or if it was there when I bought the car ( I am not the most observant of people).

I took it to a local spray shop and they took it off and sprayed it for me. They said it easy to take off.

This evening I looked at my car door and to my horror I see another scrape just a bit lower than the previous but in roughly the same place. This time how ever it was much larger and what seemed to be a rust mark or a dirty metal mark in the top right corner of the bare metal. Again as I am not observant, it could have happened any time over the past few weeks. Reasons being as I get up in the dark drive to work, drive home in the dark. So Its hard to notice something like that. I rarely drive during the day and I wouldn't think to look there when I open my door. The car is cleaned by mini valet once a month. The car is usually kept at work or at home, I don't really go anywhere else.

Recently the car has been for repairs at VW so it could have happened then by a member of the staff, they also did a full valet. Maybe they scrubbed too hard on an area that had been sprayed 4 months ago? Or I fear the worst and some one is trying to break in :(. How ever since the last time I have moved house by about 10 miles so its either a new thief or he is following me. I have no enemies, so I am totally baffled as to how this even happened, twice!

here's hoping that it has happened to some one here. I thought it maybe be a paint problem or worse is this the way to break into a golf MK5? by taking this trim off? The guys that sprayed the trim the first time round are used by VW so they came recommended.

Here is an image of the current scrape that shows the rusty, dirty mark on the bare metal. And there doesn't seem to be any further signs of damage. I would have thought that if some one was using a screw driver or something to remove the trim they would at least bend something.

Any ideas? I am really confused about this one. It looks to me as if its bad paint or maybe even a bad trim/material which is causing the paint to not stick?
