You can generally switch anything but if you do a random engine you have sort driveshafts and ecu, wiring etc as well as mounting.

I'm sure it can and has been done, but when the 1.8t is so easy to do and generally you would never need more power than that in a front wheel drive especially something as light as a mk1 mk2 or mk3 most people just go for that

I have no idea what people do to mk4 and later though as I've never really looked into it
20vt conversion, sig pic coming soon!

f17bad has been kind enough to make a thread for all the parts that you'd need need to do it if you want to have a look.

reason for it as stated is  most of the engines across the VAG range are quite easy to interchange,  and plenty of motors to choose form so most find one that floats there boat.

the camper lot love a bit of subaru  but other than that cross make transplants involving vag tend to be the vag engine been fitted to something else
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

I see I see. But The minis with Vtec and hayabusa for example, you have to get a frame to fit the engine in! Suppose if it all same would be alot easier....

Say if you put a 2.0 Vtec in a mk4 would it even be worth it? As you maybe able to get the same power out of the 1.8T?

Could you squeeze a V8 into a VAG?
