Rust !!
« on: 20 January 2012, 18:40 »
Just washed the GTD today, while cleaning wheels noticed some rust marks on disc hub, just where it meets the wheel,

Is this normal, best course of action to resolve ??

Galvanic corrosion between alloy wheel and brake disc. This is just normal, maybe a clean up with a wire brush and bit of copper grease next time the wheel is off will somewhat prevent it.

Normal on many other makes of car too. If it concerns you, you could paint them with Hammerite or something similar next time you have the wheels off.

Thanks for the replies guys, I think the issue is highlighted by the open format of the vancouvers, prob need for hammerite as will play on my mind !!

Shut it

Nah, back to the OP, don't worry. It's common across all VAG cars near enough. It may not be as common on GTI's as the owner's will likely look after their cars but have a look at the next Audi A5 2.0TDI repmobile you see and it will be the same (probably worse).
