Instagram and the sort make me sad, you spend a couple of hundred quid on a camera or have the latest smart phone with a "quality" camera then spend a couple of quid to make the photos look sh1t.

IMO it turns photography into more about "cool" "funky" filters than actual composition.

I think it's also aimed at people not as into photography as you may be, thus giving them a feeling of achievement and able to share "better than plain photo's" :wink:

It's nothing like Flickr. It's like twitter but with quick and easy pictures.

If I wanted to take a photo properly I'd use the DSLR, or my actual SLR this is just for fun really.

There's a similar elitism about the swap from film to digital photography.

All the instagram (and similar) filter things just emulate film photography. Personally I'd rather do it with a proper film camera or do it with a proper digital camera and do the creative filtering myself in photoshop/lightroom.
Yes it's quick an easy but the photos and results are low quality. If you then wanted something with enough detail to print, you wouldn't have it.

But if it works for you and it inspires your creativity and interest in photography then thats fine.
