Getting hold of mk3 rear calipers
« on: 16 May 2005, 17:17 »
Hi all,

I thought I would bite the bullet and splash out on some new mk3 rear calipers for my mk2 1991 8v GTi.

I tried awesome gti as they seem to advertise the whole package, but they are not able to supply them anymore, and they have said there is a national shortage.
Does any know where I can get some and what might need in terms of VAG part numbers?

Cheers

Matt B.

I have tried to search the forum but keep getting an error.

Yeah not too far away.
Did you need to get anything in addition. Such as hand brake cables, brake lines, spacers?

Cheers

Nah mate, had new discs and pads fitted at the same time but they were standard mk2 8valve ones anyway. you need the later mk3 ones apparently your is 90's spec right?

or try getting a set of mk4 ones, they are a straight swap as long as they are set up right but do need a special hose available from c&r enterprises or good rich direct should be able to sort you out.

When you say "setup right" do they need something special? Other than bleeding the system, etc?

Just incase anyone is interested I fitted the Mk4 calipers and it is one of the best brake mods I have done. Straight forward and such an improvement, hopefully it should never fail an MOT on the rear brakes now.

I will look to improving the front brakes now, any ideas? a bigger servo, master cylinder, G60 discs, pads, calipers?

What was involved, was it a simple straight swap, did you need to use different pads, etc?
