Vinyl wrapping exterior parts
« on: 18 January 2012, 09:15 »
I've been toying with the idea of having the rear diffuser, front chin and wing mirror covers vinyl wrapped in a carbon finish. I had looked at replacing these parts with Carbon parts from OSIR but the cost is a bit steep tbo.

I sent a local specialist these pictures and his email reply and prices are as follows:-

Email from Totally Dynamic - South London
On the photos you sent through the rear diffuser & chin spoiler are wrapped in the matte textured 3D carbon look vinyl.  I will give you prices for wrapping in the same vinyl and also for wrapping in a smooth gloss metallic carbon look vinyl.  Nether look quite like the real carbon on the mirror photo.

1 x Rear Diffuser         - in matte textured 3D carbon look vinyl = £95.00 inc VAT
1 x Front Chin              - in matte textured 3D carbon look vinyl = £29.00 inc VAT
2 x Wing mirror covers - in matte textured 3D carbon look vinyl = £66.00 inc VAT for the pair

1 x Rear Diffuser         - in gloss carbon fibre look vinyl = £120.00 inc VAT
1 x Front Chin              - in gloss carbon fibre look vinyl = £40.00 inc VAT
2 x Wing mirror covers - in gloss carbon fibre look vinyl = £85.00 inc VAT for the pair

I'd been interested to know everyones thoughts are on getting this done?

Thanks
Martin

The first two pictures were carbon wrapped by one of the guys on the forum (CBH100). I don't have the patience or time to do it myself tbo. The wing mirror cover picture I just pulled off the internet so not sure.

I say go for it Martin. It can easily be removed when you sell the car on again so won't detract from it's value. In fact if you decide you don't like it six months down the line you can just peel it off again, so it's not like painting which is permanent.
The carbon is a nice contrast against the white paint and just gives the car a bit of a lift.

it will hold up to stone chips much better than paint too. i would say give it a go

the only thing putting me off painting the diffuser is the stone chips!

Looks good, but I'd be asking if the vinyl would cope with the heat from the exhaust before doing the rear diffuser.

I've just had another quote in by email as follows:

Rear diffuser will be £40
Both wing mirror covers £40
Front chin spoiler £40

Total: £120

Can be done while you wait!

Blimey that's much cheaper than the other quote I got.

Says on their website you get a 3 year warranty! I'd ask for a look at the vinyl first but it's gotta be worth a punt imo!
