So hang on, which do you have? The mk2 engine is out and being rebuilt as per the other thread where you got a cob on, or you now have a new engine? (which it is worth noting is VERY limited in power, and performance)

I can't help thinking that you are not spending time considering everything that you should be about this just because you think you need to prove a point.

This is my opinion, but I would think it would be echoed by a lot of others. You don't have a strong base car to start with, and it could do with a lot of work to get it up to a project base level before messing around with the engine. A mk3 8v engine is not really worth putting big money in to. IF you are serious about it, I would recommend stripping it right back and building up again to a level that is worth ploughing money in to.

You said you use it every day and now need a better car to commute, you also have a nipper on the way. I honestly think you need to step back and review everything before jumping in to this.

the engine is out, dash is out. i already had the mk3 engine in there. i want to maybe pully it etc. i have the car literally to a shell and tomorrow i would have finished taking the car literally apart. it didn't take long as i didn't really have an interior in there. im buying a different car for commuting and keeping this as a project. im getting the car stripped for the paint shop as im going away at the end of the month working for 4 months back and forth to N.Ireland. I want to complete this as i thought it was a good project when i bought it and as people are saying ill have to pay to get it taken away, then i wont when im done. im keeping the car off the road for 7 months after all my work is finished and i have plenty to pump into the car so no expense will be spared then. It does my nut in  when people have to comment on my car on a simple question of how much i was asking for it and they slag me off. I wont be putting pictures of the build until its done so all im asking for now and then is for some advice and help which what forums are for. I bought the car like a shed thinking id be able to do it up but my circumstances change and i was going to do the big build but again my circumstances changed im not spending anymore than 4k and thats my limit. be good for a garage car anyway.

That's fine, it's what the forum is all about. Just take some replies with a pinch of salt.

I think that you should look elsewhere for engine options though as I've said 8v's are limited simply by their operating nature, unless you are willing to throw major money at them for Forced induction (turbo/SC) which is mega mega bucks, talking forged pistons, rods, crank which would take you nearly to your budget already.

You've got a garage, so use it. I would post pictures of progress though as people can give helpful pointers on things they spot. Put your money to good use though, you are on the right track with sorting out the chassis though. I'd move to body work as you can load a car up with good kit, but if you have a shabby shell, it will just kill off the entire enthusiasm to the car.

orite thanks mate, i dont want major power i got a aeb 1.8t sitting in the garage lol, but im not putting in simply cause the petrol costs. The car is going to get resprayed all dents and rust sorted and underlayed once again. im going to get the alloys properly done gloss black and lower it back down. I will do the progress of the car then.

just wondering do you think the alloy radiator is worth buying????

Alloy radiator? A radiator is a radiator as long as it is specific to engine application then it will be fine, yours won't be stressed for what you have planned for it, so save your cash for something worthwhile.

You would be surprised how frugal a 1.8T can be with sensible driving so might want to look a bit more in to that.

N.Ireland? I thought you were commuting to Scotland? I guess having two jobs is how you are able to sustain such a project.

Note to self: Must work harder.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
